Pramod Pathak

Brief Bio
Dr Pramod Pathak is a senior academic and currently the Dean of school of computing at National College of Ireland. He has about 30 years of experience in academia as faculty. He has extensive experience of teaching and supervision with special reference to postgraduate research supervision. In his role as Dean he is responsible for all post graduate supervisions in school. He has over 30 peer reviewed publications in Computer science pedagogy & education. His recent focus on improvement of post-graduate research supervision has led to substantial changes and improvements.
Christos Grecos
National College of Ireland
Brief Bio
Christos Grecos is currently a Professor of Visual Communication Standards and the Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research in the National College of Ireland. Previously, he has worked as a Chair in Computer Science in the Central Washington University (USA), as Dean of the Faculty of Computing & Information Technology in Sohar University (Oman), as Head of the School of Computer Science in the University of the West of Scotland, as well as in the Universities of Loughborough and Central Lancashire in academic roles. His main research interests are in the areas of image and video processing, analysis, compression, transmission and deep learning. He has published more than 190 papers on top class conferences and journals. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, SPIE and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK).
Paul Stynes
National College of Ireland
Brief Bio
Dr Paul Stynes is Vice Dean of Academic Programmes at the National College of Ireland. He completed a PhD in 2015 at Trinity College Dublin. His research interests are in the area of Collaborative requirements elicitation and Intelligent Systems specifically semantic web, and ontologies.


Traditionally supervision takes place on a face-to-face basis in individual sessions. With the increase in number of taught postgraduate students this supervision model is not only not sustainable but also may result in poor engagement and pass-rate for students and higher education institutions. There are number of ways to address the problem such as, use of technology (VLE), peer engagement and support, appropriate methods for monitoring and feedback via technology, efficiency and resource management supported by a technological environment. This special session will evaluate the effect of the above factors on the growing number of taught post-graduate students that needs to be supported by Universities worldwide. 


Authors are welcome to submit papers, discuss theory or research issues, demonstrate tools:
  • Taught postgraduate programmes Dissertation supervision
  • Use of technology to support supervision
  • Use of Peer review and assessement in supporting supervision
  • Supports related to supervision
